Off Pump (Beating Heart Surgery)

The following claims have been made about off-pump surgery:

  • Reduced risk of brain damage
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Reduced risk of death
  • Reduced blood loss

However, when one looks at the research studies carefully, many of these studies have serious flaws. There are even questions as to whether the researchers were influenced by personal gains. In my opinion, the question of whether Off-pump bypass is superior remains incompletely answered.
